The Mornington Peninsula climate has changed little since Eocene times, and the Scorpo Family Vineyard in Merricks North is located in the heart of this region. Fossil evidence suggests that the climate is much the same as it was before the Older Volcanics, which means that the vineyard is blessed with a stable climate in most years, and offers the perfect combination of land, aspect, soil type and microclimate.
JAMES HALLIDAY 5-STAR WINERY
100% Pinot Grigio - of hugely unique qualities bringing an amazingly rewarding & enjoyable wine experience.
This wine is layered with complex aromas of fruit, spice and savoury notes. Blood orange, cumquat and mandarin are foremost, whilst Turkish delight and cinnamon provide some sweeter tones, with bouquet garni and toast rounding out the edges. The palate shows great elegance. Driven by a graphite minerality and complimented by a talc, emery paper texture, strawberries, orange rind and grapefruit are prime, yet the layers are well beyond this.
Winemaking: Ripe grapes are harvested – 30% Wholes bunch, 70% Destemmed in an open top fermenter. 5 day cold soak, indigenous ferment over two weeks. Pressed after 30 days total. Aged for 12months in French oak barriques. Will complement a vast array of seafood but is a smashing match with grilled prawns.
